New Required Workplace Poster

Employers Will Need To Display the New Poster By July 1

On April 7, 2022, Virginia approved a measure that will require employers with 25 or more employees to display a new required seizure first aid poster in the workplace. The new requirement becomes effective July 1, 2022.

New Poster

The new poster will be published and made available to employers by the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI). The poster will provide information about the procedures to respond, attend, and provide comfort and safety to an individual suffering from a seizure. With this new requirement, employers are reminded that following instructions from this poster will not override the exemption from liability for a person rendering emergency care in good faith without compensation (see section 8.01-225 of the Virginia code).

The new poster will be available in color and measure at least 8.5 inches by 11 inches in size. The DOLI will develop this poster with guidance fully consistent with information and guidelines set by the Epilepsy Foundation of America (or its successor).

Required Workplace Posters

Virginia requires employers to display a number of required workplace posters, which are published by the DOLI.  Employers are required to display these posters in a prominent position in the employers’ workplace that is visible to employees.

Impact on Employers

The new required workplace poster is not available yet. However, employers with 25 or more employees should monitor communications from the DOLI to comply with this posting requirement by July 1, 2022
